Hi! I'm Conor Maher, an Indie Developer and IT Professional currently working as a Systems Administrator, I'm building my idea of the digital world one step at a time. All my coding projects are built from the ground up, I plan and design my projects with the intention of showcasing them to followers and potential employers with the intention of one day turning my programming hobby into a dream job.
I like to call myself a "Digital Craftsman" it's a term that I came across online that describes someone who is skilled in the digital world. I quiet like this definition as I spent a good part of the past 10 years working in various IT roles with no real coverall title. I spent time studying online and in a Computer Science course at University
while programming as a hobby and gaining valuable industry experience in Networking, Service Desk, System Administration, Security to name a few. My most recent role was a Service Desk Administrator and I'm looking to break into the world of Web Development, I am proficient in:
- I moved to Germany with my girlfriend and decided I want to transition into Web Development.
- I became an in-house Service Desk Administrator for Allied World Assurance Company.
- This role combined the skills of a Service Desk Engineer with that of a junior Systems Administrator.
- I managed accounts, corporate applications, monitored systems and devices for out of date software/hardware/threats, built, managed and maintained systems and hardware, packaged and deployed software.
- Managed the Dublin, London and Zug office with the aid of our Service desk team.
- I became a Service Desk Analyst for Infinite Technology, in-house at one of their big clients.
- Here I learned about Virtual Machines, Azure, Citrix, cloud services and security and built on my previous skills.
- I managed servers and completed another office upgrade with similar migrations, this time upgrading mini PC's and devices used for remoting onto virtual machines.
- I upskilled to become a systems administrator.
- I was contracted to TripAdvisor as a Service Desk Engineer.
- I learned about Device Management, Azure, Jamf, iOS, Telecommunications and soft phones, Audio/Visual/Conference rooms and meeting management.
- Office upgrades/migrations included hardware upgrades, an office move, transition from desk phones to softphones and meeting software (Bluejeans, teams, etc), 2FA/MFA, Windows 7 to Windows 10, iOS updates.
- Remote work became possible for emergencies such as snow storms, hurricanes, contagious illnesses by using Global Protect and MFA.
- Became a Level 1 IT Support Engineer with Lantech.
- Was part of a helpdesk a Field Support Engineer for our clients in Ireland.
- Learned L1 skills such as, fixing printers, building and managing corporate devices, Active Directory, on prem device/account management, Networking, communications etc.
- Used ticketing systems such as Connectwise, Jira, Hubspot, Zendesk.
- Left my Computer Science Course.
- Started a new job as an Apprentice IT Support Engineer with Lantech.
- Continued studying online at home.
- Studied Computer Science at Dublin Institute of Technology (DT228).
- Became a part time Toll Booth Operator for the M7/M8.
- Learned Java, C, and Web Fundamentals.
- Learned IT Fundamentals, Program Design, Programming Theory with C, Web Development, Algorithm Design and Problem Solving, Microprocessors, Operating Sytems, Data Exploration. OOP, Mathematics and Communication.
- Deferred my General Engineering course.
- Became a full time Painter and Decorator.
- Programmed as a hobby learning about HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript.
- Built websites for family and friends and personal projects.
- I learned to code online from resoures such as "The New Boston" on Youtube, MIT Opencourseware, EDx, Udemy, codeacadmy etc.
- Finished Secondary School.
- Moved to Dublin.
- Studied General Engineering at Dublin Institute of Technology (DT097).
- Part time bar tendor.
- I was introduced to programming by my house mate and learned how to build webpages using XHTML.
- I began my journey in the world of Technology.
